Visit to Cyprus and Reader Sale

Huge thanks to customer Pantelis Panteli for inviting George to see his system whilst he was in Cyprus.
Pantelis has a flock of 350 milking ewes. The milk is processed into Halloumi and Anari cheeses, yogurts and Trahana soup and George and his wife Mary had the chance to sample these.  Pantelis uses an APR600 reader supplied by TGM to read the EID tags on the sheep.The sheep are bolused rather than tagged.  Click here to see Pantelis using an Agrident APR600 to read the EID bolus of one of his sheep.

Brian Keane from Co Wexford has been using Select Sheepware and an APR600 reader for two seasons.  This is the first year where he has used the performance reports to assist in selection of replacements. Brian has a flock of 200, mostly Belclare Suffolk cross sheep.  There were two primary reports that Brian needed.

1. The daughters from the 30% best performing ewes, based on 90 day lamb weights
2. Ewes which had produced singles two years in a row

TGM helped Brian filter the ewes on the basis of lamb 90 day weights. The software selected the top 30%. An alert was set on these ewes ‘BEST’.  The main flock was then filtered on the filters ‘all female lambs born this year whose mothers are BEST’.  These lambs got an alert set ‘POTENTIAL’. The PC database was uploaded to the APR600 reader. Brian ran the ewes and lambs through the race and watch here to show the reader identifying the potential replacements.  Apart from selecting the replacements, he was able to identify the animals which had singles two years in a row.
George says the process has been designed to be very simple and effective.  Separation is fast as the reader displays the alert and makes a loud audible alert.
