Select Sheepware App – New Feature

The Select Sheepware app for Android and iPhone has been updated to help those users who need lists of sheep EID tags printed in numerical order.  This suits exporters, collection centres and other clients who need to compare a list of numbers with a department or other printed list.  Most, if not all, tag readers which print directly to a Bluetooth printer print the tags in the order in which they were read.  This is not at all helpful when checking off a few hundred tags.  The Allflex/Agrident readers, printing directly to a BT printer, suffer from the same issue.  TGM has added a new function to the Select Sheepware mobile app to allow a user to tap a button in the app, download the list from reader to phone or other mobile device, and print to a BT printer directly from the device, with the tags ordered by the last 5 digits.  The Select Sheepware app is £1.99 plus vat to download from the app stores. There’s annual fee of £100 per year to use the management functions, linked to Select Sheepware running on a windows computer, but if the user is using the app only for downloading tag groups from a reader and emailing / printing, then there is no need to subscribe to the £100 per year.  The app on its own at £1.99 plus VAT install price and will manage group download, email and print.  The app will print to any connected printer, the small BT pocket printers or a standard WIFI desktop printer.

The app will work with Allflex / Agrident readers whether or not the reader was purchased from TGM.  Just search for Select Sheepware on the Google or Apple app stores.

More on the requirement for small businesses to complete quarterly tax returns after April 2026

From 1st April 2026, which is now less than a year away, it will be mandatory for businesses in the UK with income greater than £50,000 to submit quarterly tax returns through compatible software.  The £50,000 is the value of total sales, not profit, so even quite small businesses will be affected. TGM has lowered the price of Select Accounts, standard package to £495. Many small businesses complete their VAT using spreadsheets and bridging software.  This is relatively easy for VAT submissions, but it becomes a bit more complicated for Tax submissions as the income and expenses of the businesses have to be totalled in specific categories.  There will actually be 5 tax returns per year, 4 quarterly mini tax returns submitted by the business owner and then a final balancing return, usually submitted by the business’s accountant. The four user tax returns do not need to account for stock value changes, depreciation etc, just income and expenditure totalled according to specific categories. It looks like HMRC is not intending to collect tax on the basis of these quarterly returns. It’s not expected that the timing of when you pay tax will change, but it will give HMRC an estimation of what tax the government is going to get in the following year.
When TGM supplies a new accounts software system, the codes are already set up to suit the business type – dairy, beef, sheep etc. The input form for entering invoices is similar to a spreadsheet layout, so users who are familiar with spreadsheets have no difficulty entering sales and purchase invoices.  Unlike VAT returns, however, it is not sufficient for Tax returns to include only items which have a VAT invoice. There are many items on a business’s bank statement which are not relevant for VAT, but which need to be included on a Tax return. For example, bank interest, wages, farm insurance, HP interest, land rent, single farm payment and more.  Select Accounts allows users to enter all details from their bank statement, so that all these ‘non VAT relevant items’ are included on the Tax return.
For all users of Select Sheepware, who have paid their annual Select Sheepware support fee, TGM is offering a discount of £50 off the initial price of Select Accounts.
Select Accounts is only available in the UK. TGM does not supply Select Accounts in Ireland. It’s designed to meet the UK VAT and Tax rules and is not compatible with Irish VAT and Tax regulations. The tax rules are common across Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.
